Iyo City is close to some of the most important transpot hubs on Shikoku, making it easily accessible to many other parts of Japan.
It is close to Matsuyama airport and ferry terminals, is on a main train line and is also connected to an expressway. See the guide below for more detailed information on how to reach Iyo City using a variety of different forms of transport.
Matsuyama International Airport has flights to many other airport in Japan including Kansai (Osaka) and Haneda (Tokyo) International Airport. There are also direct flights to South Korea and China. From the airport, Iyo City centre is only 30 minutes by car and approximately 90 minutes by public transport (bus to Matsuyama Shieki, followed by train - see below).
Matsuyama's Kankou, Mitsuhama and Takahama Port connect it with Osaka, Kobe, Hiroshima, Shimonoseki, Iota, Yanai, Kokura, Beppu, Ooita, and other places. Both of Matsuyama's ports are approximately 1 hour from Iyo City centre by car.
It takes around 90 minutes to reach the city centre from the ferry port (bus to Matsuyama Shieki, followed by train - see below).
Iyo City is on two train lines, one of which is regional/national, and the other of which is local.
The regional train line, the JR Yosan line. links Iyo City with other major cities on Shikoku as well as on Honshuu. It takes only 10 minutes to reach Iyo City (station name: JR Iyo-shi) on an express train (tokkyuu) from Matsuyama (station name: JR Matsuyama). On a slower train(futsuu) it takes approximately 25 minutes.
On the local private train line, Iyo Tetsu company's Gunchuu line, it takes roughly 25 minutes from Matsuyama (station name: Matsuyama Shieki) to the centre of Iyo City. There are three Iyo Tetsu stations in Iyo City but the most convenient is the last stop on the line and is called Gunchuu-kou Station.
Various long-distance and local bus services run from Matsuyama. Iyo City has excellent rail links with Matsuyama, so there is no bus service between the two cities.
Using the expressway, you need to come off at the Iyo Interchange No.14. on more local roads and coming from Matsuyama, the best approach is to use Route 56 which also links Iyo City with the south of the prefecture.
It takes only 20 minutes from Matsuyama to Iyo City centre.
As the Futami and Nakayama regions of Iyo City are set apart from the central part of Iyo City, the method of reaching them is slightly different. The following directions describe how to reach Futami and Nakayama from the centre of Iyo City.
It is necessary to change to a regular (futsuu) train in order to reach either Nakayama or Futami from the centre of the city. Coming from Matsuyama, you need to change trains at JR Iyo-shi Station. From JR Iyo-shi Station, Nakayama (station name: JR Nakayama) can be reached on trains going south via Uchiko, while Futami (north Futami station name: JR Kaminada, station name, south Futami station name: JR Shimonada) can be reached on trains going south via Nagahama.
Futami is directory linked to the centre of Iyo City by Route 178. Nakayama is connected by Routhe 56. It takes approximated 25 minutes to reach either of these regions.
